Duke of York award

The Welcome Centre are delighted to share the amazing news that Community Cards has been awarded the Duke of York Community Initiative Award.

The award ceremony took place at Sheffield Cathedral in April, where three representatives from Community Cards were recognised for the work.

Royal Award

Nigel (project coordinator), Lucy (trustee and communications, publicity and fundraiser), Barbara (Brockholes group leader), Graham (volunteer) attended the ceremony on behalf of the 5 groups and more than 80 volunteers involved.

Achievements so far

Since Nigel started the Community Cards project they have so far donated £14,700 to The Welcome Centre, all from selling up-cycled cards, made by volunteers in our local community. Not only is this a large sum of money but also the project enlists the help of people from across Kirklees who may be feeling isolated within their community. Some really great friendships have been made over the years.

The award is a Royal recognition of excellence, enabling the group to use the royal logo and has brought a great sense of pride to the teams.
