The Welcome Centre needs your help to feed hungry families over the school holidays
Jeanne Watson, chairperson for the Welcome Centre and a former head teacher for more than 20 years, launched the Feeding Families appeal explaining “For families who are struggling financially, the school holidays can be incredibly difficult, especially the six week summer holiday. This is because many children from low-income families are entitled to free school meals during term time, but during the school holidays, families must find enough extra money to put lunch on the table each day.”
Thelma Walker MP backs summer appeal
One in five referrals to The Welcome Centre at Lord Street now comes from families with children under 16 years old.
This appeal will raise money to purchase additional supplies so the Welcome Centre can increase the amount of food in family food packs. The funding will also cover the increase in demand from families throughout the six week summer holidays. Staff aim to provide extra supplies of bread, juice, fruit and vegetables as well as tinned items in the packs to keep hunger at bay.
The appeal target was originally £1,800 however through an initial launch this was smashed in three days therefore we have challenged ourselves to raise even more so we can help additional families this summer.
Making a donation to the Feeding Families appeal is easy and will make a difference to the lives of families in the Huddersfield area
The appeal will run until 2nd September 2018 when children go back to school.
It costs the Welcome Centre £48.64 to feed a family of four for a week, but donations can be made online from as little as £2 via our online giving page https://localgiving.org/appeal/feedingfamilies/
If you prefer to make a donation by cash or cheque please make a note that the money is for the Feeding Families appeal and forward your donation to The Welcome Centre, 15 Lord Street, Huddersfield HD11QB for the attention of Emma Greenough.
