Our team

We employ a core team of staff and around 70 volunteers to run the Welcome Centre. The Centre is managed by a Board of Trustees, who are also volunteers.

Our volunteers are an integral part of what we do and we would be unable to run our core service without them.

Staff

  • Ellie Pearson -Centre Manager F/T

    Responsible for leading and overseeing the Welcome Centre and all its activities. The role includes managing and supporting the staff, applying for funding, implementing policies and procedures to maintain a quality service, communicating with partners, supporters and sponsors and strategic planning for our future. Responsible to the board of Trustees and work closely with our new sub-groups – marketing and fundraising, human resources, finance and operations.

  • Tina Skeldon - Centre Co-ordinator F/T

    Responsible for the day to day running of the centre and overseeing the store, referrals, pack preparation and stock rotation. Supervises and leads the volunteers in their tasks in the store and liaises with our service users and referrers.

  • Emma Greenough - Marketing and Publicity Worker P/T

    Responsible for promoting what the Welcome Centre does and who we help to services that may refer to us and to individuals, businesses and community organisations that might be able to support us. Lead on fundraising events, talks and awareness days.Produce the newsletter and manage the website and social media pages.

  • Lada Rotshtein- Volunteer Co-ordinator P/T

    Responsible for volunteer recruitment, induction and support, including training and help with CV, application forms and emotional support. Supervise the volunteers in their role and lead on the volunteer rotas.

  • Cath Williams - Development Worker F/T

    Responsible for supporting service users with advice, guidance and sign-posting to specialist services. Lead on the reception’s information and guidance materials for our service users and will be producing guidance packs and training courses to help improve the well-being, health and independence of the most vulnerable people who use our service. Lead on the nutritional aspect of our packs and support our core service to offer the best choices for the needs of each person referred to us.

  • Dave Woodward - Warehouse Worker and Driver

    The main driver and warehouse operative at our Queens Mill Road site. The role includes taking the lead in the operation of warehouse, to manage stock and to support the volunteers. To ensure goods are collected, stored and delivered safely with minimum wastage.

Trustees

  • Barry Lee – Trustee – Chairperson

    Worked initially in computing before moving into higher education to teach, write and research, and took early retirement from a senior post at the University of Huddersfield to give time to writing, converting a farm-house in France and working for various charities.

  • Andrew Tomlinson – Trustee - Treasurer

    Andrew splits his time between working at The University of Leeds, running his own business and supporting the work of The Welcome Centre. In addition to being the treasurer, Andrew also helps with the ICT provision at the Centre and is currently involved in a project to improve the processes around the taking of referrals. Andrew is married, to Denise, with three grown up children.

  • Joy Nixon – Trustee

    Joy works at C&K Careers as their Marketing and Communications Coordinator in a busy and varied role. Joy lives in Huddersfield with her partner and their two cats. Passionate about politics and people Joy is very proud to be involved in the Welcome Centre as a member of the marketing group and a trustee. 

  • Melinda Sharpe - Trustee

    Studied Management and Social Studies at University and worked as Business Advisor at the Princes trust, Development worker at the National Day Nurseries after trustee position at Lindley after school Club. A Trustee since 2009, Chair of the Welcome Centre until 2013 and continues with a particular interest in volunteering.

  • Yvonne Harding – Trustee

    Yvonne retired from the University of Huddersfield where she worked in HR for 20 years. She now enjoys travelling, being a member of Shepley Naturalists and engaging in fund raising activities for other charities through a local organisation in Denby Dale. Yvonne has thoroughly enjoyed being involved with the Welcome Centre as a Volunteer in the store and member of the HRV group and is now a Trustee and Chair of that group

  • Marion Donaldson - Trustee

    West Yorkshire is a great place to live and in which to work and play! I am a retired languages teacher who became involved in the pastoral side of secondary schools. Since retirement I have undergone further counselling training. Voluntary work has always been a part of my life and I am proud to be part of the Welcome Centre team. Family and friends are very important to me! I share my hobbies with them – sport, theatre, cinema, bridge and cooking.

  • Cath Bottomley – Trustee

    Cath works for Kirklees Council as the Head of Area Working and Safety. Passionate about people Cath volunteers at the welcome centre and in an NHS patients group. Her other passion is renovating properties. The current one being her dream home built in 1850 . Married with two children and three grandchildren …. So far …. And hopefully more to follow.

  • Jeanne Watson -Trustee - Vice Chair

    Worked for 20 years as a Secondary Headteacher. Now retired Jeanne works for two local charities and a government advisory group. As well as being a committee chair and Vice Chair of Trustees, she is a regular and enthusiastic volunteer at both sites

  • John Ainley - Trustee - Secretary

    John spent his entire career working in the financial services industry, most recently as Compliance & Risk Manager with a small, ethical, Building Society. On retirement, and keen to continue being associated with an organisation with ethical and social values, he became a volunteer at the Welcome Centre and sat on the Finance & Operations sub-group. Subsequently, John has become a Trustee and also acts as Secretary to the Board of Trustees and each of its sub-groups.
