A bumper community food drive has been launched by Tesco.
Every little helps is certainly true of the mission of the Viaduct Street store, where shoppers are being asked to donate items of food to help local people in need.
From now until Sunday people can donate tins or dried food goods to an army of volunteers by the shop’s entrance, made up of Tesco and Clare House staff and those who help Huddersfield Mission and the Welcome Centre food bank.
It is one of two annual food drives, which are run in conjunction with anti-hunger and food waste campaigners, Fare Share and the Trussell Trust.
“The Neighbourhood Food Collection is one that we are extremely proud of and runs alongside our regular food bin collections for charities. Donations of tinned and dried foods are exactly what we need and they will make a big difference to the lives of people in need.
“After it finishes, the donated goods will be taken to Doncaster, where they will be weighed.
“Tesco will then add 20 per cent more to the final amount and this will be delivered to local charities.
“We hope that through it we will be able to provide 6,000 meals.”
