Because of the increasing demand for our service volunteers have become integral to what we do. The role of our volunteers includes receiving and sorting donations at the warehouse, stock checking, taking telephone referrals and making up and handing out packs to our service users and data entry. We tailor the tasks according to the skills, training needs and wishes of our volunteers.
Gaining skills and boosting confidence
Our ‘Supporting Volunteers Project’ has supported over 40 people into employment since 2010. We need volunteers to help deliver our service and six years ago we started providing extra support to enable people with few opportunities or established skills to help us and build up their confidence and abilities at the same time.
Many of our supported volunteers are recommended by the local support agencies that we work with or have been service users in the past. They gain experience of a range of tasks in a working environment and develop confidence and skills that we know will help them find employment.
Helping us to help others can really boost people’s self-esteem and motivate them to address issues in their life such as social isolation, loneliness or depression.
