Who we help

We offer practical support to local people in desperate need, to individuals and families coping with job loss, debt and eviction, homelessness, domestic violence, drug or alcohol problems and physical or mental health issues.

“I couldn’t have got by and fed my daughter without the kind support of the centre. I will get back on my feet and when I do i’ll be back to help however I can”

We offer practical support to local people in desperate need – To people facing problems like:

  • Losing a job and seeing all your cash go on bills while you sort out benefit payments.

  • A young mum wanting to get her children away from a violent partner.

  • An older man, out of work with mounting debts,  who loses his home.

  • A young man with mental health issues, assessed as fit for work but failing to cope with demands of job searching and so receives benefit sanction (reduction).

  • Families facing a shortfall in the rent after a child leaves home and the bedroom tax leaves them in rent arrrear debt.

People can only receive our help if they have been referred to us by one of the front line services such as:

  • Kirklees Local Welfare Provision Team

  • Citizens Advice Bureau

  • Lifeline

  • Housing Support Agencies

  • Social Workers

  • Community Mental Health Teams

  • Huddersfield Mission Cafe Advisors

  • Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing

  • WISH Project

  • Probation Service

  • and many more

We work closely with the front line services to to understand people’s circumstances so that we only respond to cases of genuine need.

Our help is short term and limited – we provide a breathing space for people in need and aim to stop a crisis turning into a tragedy.

Around 50% of our service users only need to come for the one crisis and go on to get their lives back on track.
